1. Ram´s Charan Biography

Ram Charan, a business consultant, speaker and writer.

He was born in 1939 in Uttar Pradesh, India. Since early childhood he helped his parents in the shop earned by them. He obtained a degree in engineering from Banaras Hindu University and later on he was awarded an MBA and a doctorate at Harvard Business School where he taught.
Mr. Charan has worked for many prestigious companies such as GE, KLM, and Bank of America, he is a very popular author, he has written books as: “Profitable Growth Is Everyone's Business”, “Boards That Deliver”, “The New Rules for Getting the Right Things Done in Difficult Times”, etc… of which some of them have become best-sellers.
Nowadays, he is one of the directors of Austin Industries and he was elected a member of the National Academy of Human Resources in 2000 and become a distinguished member in 2005.

2. Summary
In this fragment taken from the book, “Leadership in the Era of Economic Uncertainty”. Mr. Charan explains how companies should react in order to survive an economic crisis, giving examples of the reactions taken by the CEO’s from DuPont during the economic crisis.
Chad Holliday the DuPont CEO’s get aware about the crisis when he was visiting a customer in Japan. Back in the U.S. he summoned a meeting with the top executive and talked to them about the crisis. The crisis was a global crisis which affected directly the economies of the companies which couldn’t finance their operations. After introducing an emergency plan, he talked to his employees so that they knew the situation of the company and what they should do in order to find a way around the crisis. Later on Mr. Holliday was concerned about the economic situation of the company and reduced costs in many areas.
To conclude all CEO’s should do what Mr. Holliday did accept the crisis, tell the employees about the situation of the company and take important decisions which are going to affect directly the company.
