In the article “Losing face” from The Economist, the author tries to emphasize how social networks such as Facebook and Myspace can be beneficial but self-defeating at the same time if they are badly used, which is what happened to British Airways and Virgin.

Some internal channels are available for workers to ease themselves; however, these have been proved inefficient due to the past happenings. Recently, some members of the Virgin crew have been fired for gossiping on a facebook forum about the company and its customers. In defence, managers claimed that workers signed a policy that forbids them to post any information without a specific authorisation.

In conclusion, what it has been suggested to avoid future scandals is to follow a close online monitoring activity or perhaps encourage “online watering holes” where workers can exchange views and gossip.
